We are proud to help our customers who work across a range of industries including construction, hairdressing, personal training, plant nurseries, cafe owners, builders, furniture manufacturers and more.
But, how did Cooper Accounting come to be the business we are today?
Our Managing Director
Our Managing Director, Samantha Stokes always knew she wanted to achieve something big in life and own her own business. She has always strived for perfection, something which is reflected in the businesses ethos and our approach to supporting customers.
As the first person in her family to go to University, Samantha was the student in class from a very young age who would ask for extra maths homework. Unsure about what she wanted to do when growing up, she took on lots of different jobs which helped her truly understand a wide range of industries. Mainly working in bars, sales and office work, she found herself running a pub for ten years.
After working eighty hour weeks for a decade, Samantha decided it was time for a major lief and career change. Chatting to one of the regulars and asking for advice led to a conversation which inspired her to do what it is that she does today. When asked “what do you like to do”, Samantha’s response was easy, “I like maths and love helping people”. The response she received was “be an accountant” and so, the rest is history!
Starting a fresh, Samantha worked in a different accounts roles and fell pregnant within a couple of months. Whilst at a local construction firm, she then began her AAT and through sheer determination, very long hours and hard work, completed all nineteen exams in two years – all whilst having two babies!
When her children were one and two, Samantha was a single mother, with a passion to start her own business only now, she also had the qualificiation’s to do so.
The birth of Cooper Accounting
Starting as a sole trader in January 2020, Samantha founded Cooper Accounting and began providing accounting support to her customers. By April 2021, Cooper Accounting became Cooper Accounting Limited. In this time, the business has grown, welcoming new members of staff and more to come. Cooper Accounting is now based in a lovely office in Halifax, close to many of our wonderful customers.
Moving forward
